Information as an Online Profit Catalyst

Author: Cameron Ashwood

Before the internet took off in popularity and breadth, people used to go to the library for free information. As we all know, technology has changed that significantly. While many people still go to libraries, it's usually much easier and more convenient to get information online. Even with the extensive amount of information already out there on the net, selling information can still be a money making opportunity for virtually anyone. Information is a product that is fairly easy to create, and very quick to bring to market.

Information can be packaged and presented in various ways as a product. One of the most popular manifestations is e-Books. Electronic books are usually created in a program like Adobe Acrobat and are designed to be easily downloadable and navigable. E-books are generally cheap to produce and require little more than basic writing and organizational skills to assemble. E-books ranging from sports tips to nutritional information to how-to guides are all over the internet. These products truly span the spectrum in terms of price as well. Many are free, while some can cost several hundred dollars. The quality of and demand for the information ideally determines price.

Another manifestation of information exchange is electronic newsletters. These are often distributed through email lists and are frequently promotional in nature. If this is the case, the newsletter would naturally be free, but would serve to direct the subscriber to another product which the writer is selling. Internet Marketers are especially fond of this mode of advertising and promotion.

Information can also be profited from through subscription websites. These sites charge a fee which grants the purchaser access to a member's area with regularly updated articles and reviews. This is regularly a promotional device as well. The information in these membership areas customarily directs members to product links and further purchases.

In comparison to other products, information definitely has many advantages as a means of online profit. It is easy to create, can lead to further purchases, and generally avoids such issues as customer disatisfaction and product returns. Furthermore, when selling information, there is no inventory to stock, no shipping involved, and access to this product can be gained instantaneously. The ordering and delivery process can be fully automated, and sales can be transacted at any hour of the day. This is a wide open area of opportunity that can be both exciting and profitable for anyone looking to make money online.
